Mini Vinnies

We are delighted to announce that this year we are launching a Mini Vinnies group at St Ignatius. Mini Vinnies is organised by the St Vincent de Paul Society, and the aim of the group is to turn concern into action.

Supervised by Mrs Hendy and Mrs O'Neill, the children will be undertaking voluntary work in our local community, while developing their faith and spirituality, and beginning concrete acts of charity with the person who sits next to them in class.

This half term the children will be told all about Mini Vinnies and invited to nominate members for the group this year. We will then have regular prayer sessions and Conferences to decide upon activities, which may include:

  • Having food collections for local food banks
  • Helping with assemblies
  • Making and sending Christmas cards
  • Carol singing in residential homes
  • Reading at Mass
  • Befriending school newcomers
  • Helping staff with jobs
  • Exemplifying good manners and conduct
  • Offering help whenever and wherever there might be a need, however small
  • Sharing things with each other
  • Making a big effort to celebrate each others' birthdays in a way unique to each person
  • Helping to organise class saint feast day celebrations
