Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Let us ask God to prepare our hearts to encounter our brothers and sisters. Let’s create a ‘culture of encounter’.

This means that we approach, speak, listen and come to know and understand one another, in all our diversity.

If we are to build a better world we cannot build this dream alone, we need to dream together.

To work for the good of everyone, respecting the human dignity of every person,  and changing the conditions that cause so much suffering.

We need to think of ourselves more and more as a single family living in a common home.

Each of us bringing the richness of our faiths and beliefs, each of us with our own voice, brothers and sisters all.

Our community

St Ignatius Catholic School and our local Parishes form part of a wonderfully culturally rich and diverse wider community within Sunbury, Shepperton and surrounds, united by our faith and our focus on delivering the very best educational outcomes for each and every child in our care.

Who we are

We recognise the range of rich cultural experiences of our families and staff, and want our school community to reflect and build on this together. We hope to do this in different ways.

We have started by creating an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) working party made up initially of staff from across the school in a variety of roles. We would like to expand this to include some parent representatives.

We are dedicated to working towards inclusivity across the school and we are championed by a member of the SLT to ensure that change is supported and resourced effectively.

We will be carefully considering the 9 protected characteristics below, enshrined in the Equalities Act 2010, to ensure that whatever we do will have no negative impact on any individual.

What will we do?

We will meet once a half term and have a rotating chair. This ensures that whomever is leading the meeting sets the agenda and raises the profile of the discussion topic. We will minute every meeting, and share our findings with all staff in the school.
